The products obtained from the alabaster have had a very diverse historical evolution. Initially the Egyptians, the Greeks and also the Chinese used it for handicraft products. Later in Spain, in sculptural altarpieces of churches and monasteries.

At the beginning of the 20th century, designers from Art-Decó and Art Nouveau used it for the first time as diffusers of light in the design of decorative lamps; taking advantage of its transparency and natural veining.

Nowadays alabaster is still used in the restoration of churches and monasteries, as in the case of the restoration of the hermitage of the holy Christ, built at the end of the 15th century and located in the town of Avila, Spain.

This hermitage is famous for its Christ, created by the sculptor Aniceto Marinas, in 1948. The church was restored between 1978 and 1981. Among other reforms carried out in the hermitage, a large alabaster support was placed to keep the sculpture of the Christ being this illuminated from its bottom.

Another one of the projects of Arastone, with a more modern style was the Cathedral of the Angels, where again one of the most important architectonic elements returns to be the alabaster. In this case in the form of large panels distributed on the walls of the cathedral, favoring its natural lighting, and giving it a majestic and elegant look.
